What should I do if someone has an asthma attack?

Asthma
Hey Hey Hockeytown 2008 Champs asked:

I just started coaching about a month ago, and a couple girls on my team have asthma. I don’t have experience with anything like this. So if something happens at practice what should I do?

call 911. if the girls know that they have asthma, then they or their parents should be knowledgeable and carry whatever medicines they need.

I have asthma… the best thing to do is let them sit down and catch their breath… they should have inhalers which if they do, they should know how to use them depends on whats prescribed by their DR. and if it is extremely bad than they might need to go to the ER. They should know what to do when their asthma is acting up.

Make sure that all of them bring their inhalers with them, and also speak with their Parents so you will have an idea ,how bad each one’s Asthma is and what they can suggest to you! Good Luck Coach!

If they are having a serious attack, call 911. But this isn’t too likely to happen if they use their inhalers regularly.
