TREATMENT is medical and his doctor is the first step there.

well, if he has an inhaler, helping him remember to
take it with him, and refill it.

there are a lot of triggers. learning what his triggers are ( lige cigarette smoke or perfume) and not doing/using those things around him help a lot.

He needs to see a Dr! If his parent want take him talk to your school counselor.

so you already know your friend has asthma

He needs to go to the Doctors, as he may not have been prescribed the right inhaler for his Asthma (assuming he already has one).

I have to use a blue, brown and a peach coloured inhaler (some are steroid ones), where as my brother has to have a white one.

Obviously they are all different depending on how bad your Asthma is. But if he is still having attacks, while using a inhaler, he hasn’t got one strong enough.
