Can you suggest a good activity for a 7 year old with asthma?
asked:
He doesn’t like Karate,he needs something where he is not running,he used to play Football but he would have an asthma attack after practice 2 times a week and after the games on Saturday. Right now he is playing a lot of video games and watching TV. He is allergic to grass too.

My brother also has asthma! He had a tough time looking for an activity he could do. here are some things he could do:
he could buy active games like dance dance revolution, play in the park, or swim! Swimming would be the best activity for him. good luck!

Not so much an activity but a suggestion,,,,,Singulair….works wonders for my daughter. It is a non steroid asthma preventative…..

If you live near the mountains….hiking is a great idea because mountain air is fresh and clean!

the best thing is swimming. It helps to build up the lungs and is the best thing for asthma. As long as there is an indoor pool nearby it is something that can be done all year round.
I also agree with the person who said Singulair. My daughter has taken it since July last year and has not had asthma or used ventolin or any steroids since. If it works for your child it is the best thing going. It is a tablet they take at night simple and easy

i think swimming would work-an indoor pool could work year round and you wouldnt have to worry about grass.

no matter what anyone says, swimming is not the best. Using your upper body is the major cause of asthma attacks. My son has asthma and he rock climbs. He has never had an asthma attack like he did with the other sports we tried (one of them being swimming) and he loves it. If he is afraid of heights, try bowling. There are many younger leagues and it can be great fun. (It does work your upper body, but since it is inbetween breaks, it’s not as bad.)

Do you have good after school programs like art, science, join a club ,like the YMCA…swimming and other activities…my daughter has it pretty bad ,she loves to read and trips to the library….check that calendar ,the library is full of activities for kids….we go to a running track and walk and run at our own pace..she likes dancing..music lessons?…something cool like guitar or drums..mine couldn’t handle school band…marching around practicing…..My youngest likes ceramics….what is his interest?….well check the library and the Y and see what looks interesting to him…give him choices you have thought about and you know he can handle…P.S…..my girls like to do volunteer community stuff…playing bingo with the seniors….making things like nic-nacs ornaments to sell and donate the money to toys for tots.

build and fly kites. it will teach him how to build things and he can get outside to test out his projects. box ktes can be challenging both to build and fly. maybe it will open a door to his future. i had childhood ashtma, hope he outgrows it too.

SWIMMING, riding a bike, or walking at an indoor track.

Swimming, it trains the breathing control, and it is a very effective exercise
