Can breathing in second hand smoke cause asthma?
runner24 asked:
My father smokes in the garage and the lingering effects of the smoke get inside, and sometimes I have to breath it in. Could this cause asthma or pose any other health risks? I am also a very good track/cross country runner and was wondering if this could effect my performance.

Second-hand smoke has been shown to be just as deadly as smoking. Yes, it can cause asthma or respiratory diseases and it definitely could affect your physical performance.

for the most part you have nothing to worry about. But! if you are saying you are already diagnosed with asthma and have a history of asthmatic attacks and treatments then yes, second hand smoke could actually trigger an asthmatic attack. other than that dont be overly worried about second hand smoke unless you are trapped up in a car daily with a two pack a day smoker. you’ll much talk and read much about these issues but believe me there is little scientific data to the contrary.
